This course describes and compares the insurance products and other programs that are available or are being developed to enable responsible firearms owners to handle the financial burden they are likely to face in the event that they are involved in a self-defense incident or a red flag law proceeding. The course discusses insurance backed membership organizations, legal services cooperatives, and prepaid legal services organizations and provides information about their membership costs and the relative strengths and weaknesses in their coverage with respect to criminal defense attorneys’ fees, bail bonds, civil attorneys’ fees, civil damages exposure, and coverage for red flag law proceedings. It also makes a recommendation on which organization(s) to join in order to best position yourself to cover your legal expenses and damages exposure. Students will receive a useful color matrix that compares prices and features of the best coverage available.
